About event

Friends of the Avenue of the Arts Theater Club:

BalletX Fall Series 2019 with two world premieres by choreographers Matthew Neenan and Jo Strømgren.

The New York Times has named Neenan “one of the most appealing and singular choreographic voices in ballet today.” His new holiday-inspired ballet is co-created with composers Rosie Langabeer (Sunset, o639 Hours co-creator) and Tara Middleton (Sun Ra Arkestra), and features sets by Maiko Matsushima (Pig Iron Theatre) and costumes by Christine Darch (San Francisco Ballet).

Jo Strømgren’s work, known for its multi-disciplinary gusto, has been described by The Boston Globe as “fantastically beautiful… conjuring the poetic flight of a butterfly.” His new space age ballet, The Moon, features the music of composer/saxophonist Mette Henriette (ECM Records), video installation by Jorge Cousineau (Subcircle), and astronaut costumes by Martha Chamberlain (PA Ballet).

Your $35 admission price is a discount off the box office and includes a reception with wine and gourmet sandwiches before the show and at intermission.

Thursday December 5.  Reception at the Wilma Theater, at  6:45. Performance at 8 p.m.
