An investigation into the history of whiskey production in colonial America.
Who knew that the Father of our Country was also a whiskey producer? That's right, none other than George Washington, was the only founding father to commercially operate a distillery. Thanks to archaeological research, this distillery was reconstructed at Mount Vernon and is back in operation, using Washington's own recipes. Six enslaved laborers worked under an overseer who produced whiskey and other spirits, making this one of the largest and most profitable distilleries of its time.
This program, which includes information and libations, will be presented by Luke Pecoraro, Director of Archaeology at George Washington’s Mount Vernon. Try five craft whiskeys (three ryes, two bourbons) while learning about distilled products made in colonial America.
Limited attendance. This program will sell out. Please get your tickets early. Individual museum members can register one person at the member's rate. Family memberships may register two people at the member's rate.
